PATRICK HANSMA

Linger in darkness, cross centuries, and dwell among the dead, for your deeds are evil.
You Were Darkness commences in the aftermath of the Halloween massacre at the climax of The Grave Below. As Ryan searches for Idelette, her vampiric past is traced episodically through the centuries. Though she is gone and the witches’ coven has been destroyed, the killings haven’t stopped. Can Sarah and Ryan escape the consequences of crimes which have closed in around them, while detectives draw nearer, and the body count is rising?
The Grave Below
A 16th century puritan vampire meets a twenty-first century grave robber. The two become entangled in a mysterious witch hunt as the vampire's history unfolds, and a pair of detectives follow the murders. A traffic of dead bodies and a torrent of blood permeate this glimpse into the total depravity of man and the doctrines of election, viewed through the lens of habitual sin.

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING
Good read. Like the past and present melding together. Hope to see a sequel!

A great read and interesting take on the genre. Where else will you find a discussion of Reformed theology between a vampire and a grave robber as they "work out their salvation in fear and trembling" in not dissimilar situations. The author clearly demonstrates his knowledge of his field and with references to Poe, Shakespeare, Dante, and Augustine, as well as numerous scripture references, the reader will need to pay attention. Watch for the tongue-in-cheek poke at Johann Tetzel.
A fun, albeit gory vampire novel. (Although I suppose one expects a vampire novel to be a gory). The author does a great job of developing the characters and is talented at writing engaging dialogue. There are a few portions that move slowly, but if you push through those sections you’ll be rewarded. Overall an enjoyable read from a unique perspective.
